Resting electrocardiogram (ECG)

Objectifs 

An electrocardiogram is a non-invasive exam (i.e., it does not require opening the patient) that records the electrical activity of the heart. 

Duration 

10 minutes.

Preparation 

For this visit:

  • Avoid applying body lotion before the exam
  • Avoid wearing a dress and/or tights
Steps 

During a visit to the ambulatory clinic, self-adhesive electrodes connected to an electrocardiograph are placed on the chest. The heart's electrical activity is recorded for a few minutes during a painless procedure. 

Follow-up and side effects 

A cardiologist analyzes the electrocardiogram.
