Dr. Paul Khairy appointed president of the International Society for Adult Congenital Heart Disease

Montréal, March 26, 2012 – The Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) congratulates Dr. Paul Khairy, cardiologist-electrophysiologist and Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Centre at the MHI, on his appointment as president of the International Society for Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ISACHD). His appointment was announced yesterday at the meeting of the American College of Cardiology that is currently taking place in Chicago. Dr. Khairy will serve as president-elect for a two-year term followed by two years as ISACHD president.

Dr. Paul Khairy is the Canada Research Chair in Electrophysiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease as well as an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine of Université de Montréal. With joint degrees from Harvard, he is a pioneer in the treatment of arrhythmia in patients born with a heart defect. "

Dr. Khairy's expertise in adult congenital heart disease and arrhythmia, his undeniable talent and his strong leadership skills make him the ideal person to serve as president of the ISACHD. The coming years will be of capital importance in the development of research and education programs in the field of adult congenital heart disease," pointed out Dr. Denis Roy, Executive Director of the MHI.

Founded in 1994, the ISACHD is the only international organization dedicated to the science, education and promotion of professionals working in the field of adult congenital heart disease and related medical disciplines. Its mission is to improve care for patients around the world who suffer from adult congenital heart disease by supporting research, education and health care policies.
