The Montreal Heart Institute is home to the largest cardiovascular disease prevention centre in Quebec and Canada. In 2004, the MHI proudly became the first Canadian health care facility to be accredited by the World Health Organization as an official Health Promoting Hospital. This certification was awarded in recognition of the disease prevention and health promotion activities at the MHI's ÉPIC Centre, the most extensive physical activity and preventive medicine centre in Canada. That same year, the MHI established its Prevention Division to support initiatives in this area.
